Summer Insurance - Enrollment and Graduate Assistant Appointment in Summer
An eligible appointment is at least a 50% appointment for a minimum of four consecutive weeks in summer or eight consecutive weeks in fall or spring. If you wish to request insurance for your dependent(s) you should submit an early activation request.
Students Enrolled in Summer KU Classes with an Eligible Appointment
Steps to be Taken by Student
- Step 1: Enroll in KU classes. Insurance fees will appear in Enroll & Pay.
- Step 2: Request early activation between April 20 – June 1, 2026 (submit by May 18 for June 1 activation) OR your insurance will be automatically activated if you have a qualifying appointment.

Steps to be Taken by Human Resouce Management (HRM) and/or United Healthcare
- Step 3: HRM keys appointment; ISS verifies; UHCSR activates plan.
- Step 4: HRM posts the 75% insurance credit (first batch June 6–19).
- Step 5: Students must pay their 25% portion.
NOTE: Students requesting dependent coverage must pay the dependent insurance fee to UnitedHealthcare before their own insurance can be activated.
